The Colorado Mineral Processing Division Subsection of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) had its first meeting in 1949 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The meeting is the longest-running annual meeting in the history of the Broadmoor. This year we will be celebrating the 72nd year of the conference.
The intent and structure of the meeting
is to provide a comfortable setting in which participants could attend technical sessions in a somewhat informal setting. The design of the program was such that it would attract people from a wide range of disciplines within the mining industry and foster camaraderie for all. Themes and Topics of the meeting and technical papers are adjusted annually to be current with political,
economical, environmental, operational or financial concerns within the industry while staying within the general topic of “Mineral Processing”.
It has always been the goal of this meeting to bring together those from operating companies, engineering, academia, and equipment or service suppliers in a setting which would provide an atmosphere of professionalism combined with a relaxed “get together” attitude to facilitate the exchange of ideas, knowledge
and experience.
The MPD meeting was also designed to provide invaluable contact and networking possibilities for attendees in a forum which attracts those from upper-level positions of major companies. It is also a great time to re-kindle old friendships and establish new ones.
For the tenth consecutive year, the Executive Committee will again invite three students from top Mineral Engineering schools to present during the conference. Over $30,000 has been raised in the past from the generosity of the attendees to support these students.
The Executive Committee of the Colorado MPD is composed of an all-volunteer group of experienced people from all disciplines of the industry who meet monthly to develop the program. We do this because we recognize the intrinsic value of this meeting. We welcome all attendees and look forward to providing a quality program each and every year.
The 2023 meeting will take place from April 27th through April 29th, 2023. A block of rooms has been reserved for conference attendees (check back for code). Stay up to date with conference registration, speaker details
and other information via our website or on
LinkedIn.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, we look forward to seeing you at The Broadmoor.
Best Regards,
Brett Berg
