    SME Colorado Section Members,

    Our speaker, Kirk Daehling, is the Plant Manager for Natural Soda and will present on “Natural Soda – A Sodium Bicarbonate Mine”.     The meeting notice doesn't tell a person that they have to pay the Section Dues in order to sign up for next Thursday's meeting.  I am a longtime SME member and past (Founding) Chicago Section Chairman and don't feel it's fair to have  to pay the same dues to attend at most 2 meetings a year in Golden as those who work in the Tech Center and could attend all Section meetings if they wished.

    If you haven't already heard back, you don't have to pay the dues.  there is a step where you go into the system but you register as a guest.  no dues req'd.

    Hi Doug.

    While you do not have to be an SME Colorado Section member to attend our meetings, we encourage and appreciate it. As you obviously know from being a former Chicago Section Chair, Section membership helps with more than just meetings. The Sections promote and provide a local network for interaction between members in a particular area, and provide the important function of local outreach and grass-roots advocacy to those outside of our industry. Meetings are operated at a near break-even level, and the meeting income alone does not cover all section costs. We recognize that not all members can attend all meetings. However, the reason we have three general meeting locations is to try and serve as many members as possible.
