Title: "Who Trains the Tailings and Mine Waste Engineer? A Global Survey of Education, Trade Organizations, and University Programs"
Abstract: The question of who is responsible for developing tailings engineering competency has never had a clear answer — and the consequences of that ambiguity are well documented. This talk surveys the institutions and programs now stepping into that gap: university offerings from UBC, Colorado School of Mines, Luleå, and the Australian Centre for Geomechanics; the professional development roles of CIM, AusIMM, and the SME; and the post-Brumadinho research networks reshaping graduate education. The goal is to give practitioners a working knowledge of what exists, how to navigate it, and where the gaps remain.
Bio: Currently the Managing Practice Leader for SRK in North America. He is the Director of the Tailings Center, an academic-industry consortium that involves the Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University and the University of Arizona as well as partners in the mining industry. Terry is also an Adjunct Lecturer with the Department of Economics and Business at the Colorado School of Mines
