Committee: Acid Drainage Technology Initiative – Metal Mining Sector (ADTI-MMS) Joint Standing Committee, a Sub-Committee of the SME Environmental Division

Committee Purpose:

The Metal Mining Sector (MMS) of the Acid Drainage Technology Initiative (ADTI) was organized in August 1998, in order to more efficiently represent the interests of state and federal government agencies, universities and other research institutions, the metal mining industry, and consulting firms who are involved in the environmentally sound management of metal-mine ore and wastes at mining and processing sites. ADTI-MMS also became a member of the International Network for Acid Prevention Global Alliance (INAP-GA) through membership in the ADTI Operations Committee, which is now the umbrella organization of the International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD).

Committee Objectives:

1.      Identify, evaluate, develop, and disseminate information about cost-effective, environmentally sound methods and technologies to manage mine wastes and related metallurgical materials for abandoned, active and future mining and associated operations.

2.      Promote the understanding of these technologies.

3.      Coordinate an annual meeting of the ADTI-MMS at the SME Annual Meeting.

4.      Sponsor one or more annual technical sessions on mining influenced water topics.

5.      Plan and implement other activities to the mutual benefit of ADTI-MMS and the ENV Division of SME.
