Women in Tunneling

Traditionally a male-dominated industry, tunneling is slowly beginning to attract more women as engineers, project managers, writers, and more. The number of women working in tunneling has increased in recent years, and we want to maintain the trend.

By gathering, networking, and spreading our message, we hope to bring light to the importance of women in tunneling, and find ways to encourage more women to get involved in this exciting field.

Hampton Roads Bridge and Tunnel Project in Norfolk, Virginia Tunnel Tour

Wednesday, November 6 through Friday, November 8

Applications are due no later than Friday, September 20, 2024. WIT committee will reach out to the selected applicants with confirmation of attendance.

The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion is the largest highway construction project in Virginia’s history. This transformative undertaking, scheduled for completion in November 2025, will widen the current four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Norfolk and Hampton, with new twin tunnels across the harbor. 

Applicants will need to provide their own transportation to Norfolk and hotel costs to attend.  Transportation to the from hotel to the tour site will be provided. Please let us know in your application if you need a letter from WIT to provide to your manager to encourage them to invest in your participation.
