The Northern Nevada Section is a legally constituted unit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, Inc., encompassing a specific geographical area. Our members are given the opportunity to network with their peers and hear valuable presentations through our activities.
We welcome new members into the Section. Membership in National SME includes a subscription to Mining Engineering Magazine; access to OneMine.org; the SME Membership Directory (a who’s who and where in the industry); information about local Section Meetings, the Annual Meeting and Exhibit; Online Resources, short Courses and Topical Meetings, Publications (the best reference and technical publications in the world); Leadership Volunteer Opportunities and Personal and Financial Benefits (life and medical insurance, a credit card program, car rental discounts, and much more).

The SME Northern Nevada Section engages local members of the mineral extraction community with monthly dinner meetings and technical presentations during the academic year. Our primary mission as a branch of SME is to support post-secondary education related to mineral extraction. We accomplish this by offering free admission to dinner meetings for students in the Mackay School of Earth Science and Engineering of the University of Nevada, Reno, and by distributing scholarships annually to qualified applicants from UNR's Mackay School.
