The J.H. Fletcher & Co. Underground Mining Scholarship (Fletcher Scholarship) was established in 2012 by J.H. Fletcher & Co. through a generous contribution from the company. For more than 70 years, J.H. Fletcher & Co. has specialized in equipment solutions for the coal and industrial minerals industries and is a world leader in design and manufacture of roof drills, bolters, scaling machines, drill jumbos and specialty equipment that improve safety and productivity in underground mines.
The J.H. Fletcher & Co. Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining or minerals engineering, with a desire to use their skills to apply technology to improve safety and productivity in underground mining. Students pursuing degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering may also be considered if they are minoring in mining engineering or show a strong desire for a career in the underground mining industry.
Selection of scholarship recipients is at the discretion of the SME Foundation Scholarship Committee, whose members are appointed by the SME Foundation President. Final approval of all selections will be made by the executive leadership of J.H. Fletcher & Co.
Recipients will be recognized at the SME Foundation Dinner at the Annual Conference & Expo.
