An historical note on the Kennedy tailing wheels: The San Francisco
AIME?? Section sponsored the Pacific Southwest Minerals Conference (late
70's or 1980 I don't remember the year) and we gave a part of the
proceeds from the conference for restoring the the Kennedy tailing
wheels.?? I was chairman of the conference that year and Bob Shoemaker
and Al Taylor were on the planning committee.?? Bob, Al and I drove to
Jackson to present the funds to the City of Jackson.?? I have a clipping
from the Jackson news paper of the presentation, unfortunately it
doesn't have the date on it or the amount of the check but it was around
1980 and I believe the check amount was about $10,000.
I thought that might be of some interest since SME (AIME) supported the
restoration of the tailing wheels.?? Wish I could join the tour but my
wife's health issues keep me close to home.?? Enjoy the tour.
