John: Fire Department was out last Saturday.?? Turned out it was a
neighboring restaurant smoking beef for an evening event.?? We did have a
fire in the Change House a few years ago which has given us a chance to
redo all the displays and upgrade the museum presentation.?? Trunnion
support on Tailing Wheel #1 failed about the same time and the Kennedy
Foundation as able to lift the wheel and install temporary supports.??
Timbers for restoration are cut and on site.?? This project makes a
discussion subject on its own. Doug

we've been there in the past. A great spot, pretty area too, if it doesn't burn down.

Hi everyone!
I think this is a great idea! I've driven past the Kennedy many times but have never visited.
It's about time...

From the responses so far I think that there is a demand for a field trip to the Kennedy Mine. I also have driven by it for years and have never even been up to it.
Can you get in touch with Chris Johnson, our Program Chair and see if this can't be arranged? I would draw in Mark Trevor who does and lot of work in the area, i.e. Sonora Gold and maybe he can add something to the area.

Bill:
The Kennedy Mine is still on the table.?? It is quite a distance out at
Jackson (Amador County), but one could easily spend several hours just
looking around.?? If attendees wanted to do the tour, that takes up 90
minutes and still leaves hours of stuff to look at.?? Might arrange for a
lunch or buffet; options are open.

Summer is high upon us and the smoke hangs heavy over some of our members. With that in mind, it is time to start planning our fall meeting. I have been in discussion with Chris Johnson - Section Program Chair, and volunteered to put out a call to see if anyone would host a field trip. Before the pandemic, there was an offer for the Kennedy Mine. I believe that a trip to the historic Mother Lode district would be of interest to our members. Those in the Bay Area, or other outlying areas would have a long day but we could always try to organize something to make it worth the while.
Any offers or suggestions? September would probably be best but we are open for recommendations.
