Hello SME Outreach Resources community group!
Do you have a local Gem & Mineral show you, your section, or student chapter could attend to talk to the public about the importance of mining and minerals in everyday life?
CO Section outreach representative, Dick Beach, has submitted the below description of a recent local outreach activity in Denver, CO.
Colorado Section/SME Minerals Education Coalition
staffs booth at Denver Gem & Mineral Show
Members of the Colorado Section/SME Minerals Education Coalition (MEC)--Karen Jass, Paul Chamberlin, Alan Cram, and Dick Beach--staffed a booth at the Denver Gem & Mineral Show, Sept. 18-20. The booth featured displays and materials showing the vital role that mineral resources and mining play in our lives. On Friday, we hosted school children from the metro area and passed out several hundred samples of rocks and minerals we use in our everyday lives. During the weekend, many rockhounds and others stopped by to learn about mining and mineral resources.
MEC thanks these Colorado Section volunteers, the Colorado Mining Association, and national SME/MEC who provided support.
Please share your local outreach activities with the group. We'd love to hear about your successes and support your challenges!
