    Dear Georgia Section Members,

Please plan to attend this quarter's Georgia Section SME Meeting at Camp Rock Eagle 4-H Center - Founders Lodge (see attached map). Our guest speaker will be John M. Long - PE, PG - Director of Mining and Geology - Imerys Performance Minerals North America, Atlanta, GA. He will be speaking on the topic "Geotechnical mishap, perhaps?".
"In today's US business environment there is typically a healthy respect for safety and the environment. From time to time unpleasant reminders show up on the evening news, and most of us walk away wondering how with all of the new high tech sensors, reasonably priced software packages giving immediate information and good knowledge base within the community, how this still happens. Perception of risk holds many hands, from business leaders, to equipment operators and sometimes engineers. In other words, company culture and risk tolerance plays a large role in what safety measures are undertaken. When reminded that your safety system is not working, recalibration is necessary and typically allows engineers a window to facilitate step change improvement in process and procedure."

Heather Vaughn (Environmental Coordinator with Thiele Kaolin Company) will also be giving us an update on environmental issues in Georgia and the USA.

Please make plans to attend this meeting on Thursday, July 18th. Details on the meeting are given below. Sign up and secure payment is available at SME - GA Section.
