SME Utah Section - December meeting:

For the December SME Utah Section meeting, Gene Bosley, Senior Engineer at Perpetua Resources will present an update on the progress of the Stibnite Gold Project. The Project presents an opportunity to restore an abandoned mine site; provide the critical minerals we need to protect our national security, grow our economy, and support a clean energy transition; create hundreds of family-wage jobs, and reconnect salmon to their native spawning grounds. After over 6 years of study, the Project’s Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) is available for public review. The comment period closes on January 10th, 2023.  To learn more about the SDEIS and how to comment, please visit https://perpetuasdeis.com/

Title of the talk:
NEPA at Work – Tracking the Evolution of the Stibnite Gold Project

Abstract: Recent years have brought several changes to Midas Gold and the Stibnite Gold Project and the Plan of Restoration and Operations (PRO) filed with the Forest Service in 2016. In addition to a company name change (to Perpetua Resources), a shift in the corporate center of gravity to Boise, Idaho, a positive Feasibility Study, and a listing on the NASDAQ (PPTA), the Project has likewise evolved. The Project’s review under NEPA so far has brought an improved and refined SGP (the ModPRO2 aka Modified Mine Plan or MMP in the just-released SDEIS) with increased environmental benefits deriving from a smaller footprint, mine plan improvements, and additional mitigation measures. Despite all this change, Perpetua’s commitment to private investment and environmental cleanup at an abandoned mine site has never wavered; the ModPRO2 preserves and improves upon the restoration benefits of the original PRO. Additionally, a recent agreement with the USFS and EPA allows for the early cleanup of the century-old Stibnite Mining District and will provide environmental benefits ahead of the long NEPA curve.  A flyover of the last 4+ years will highlight the important milestones that Perpetua Resources has achieved and will look at the opportunities that are yet to come.
