Program: The South Dakota Mineral Industries Association's mission is to provide a unified voice to educate, communicate, and advocate for the responsible mineral development across our state. South Dakota has a world class mining heritage and an essential role in the economic development of our local communities, state, and nation. To preserve these key points, SDMIA's objectives are to tell our story, become the media and public's resource for factual information, educate our teachers, students, and political leaders, and advocate for responsible mineral development.
South Dakota is growing and many challenges threaten the future of the mining industry. Population growth is driving increased demand for all mineral commodities, at the same time we see increased mineral exploration and development activities in the Black Hills. Organized opposition groups continue spreading misinformation, which is negatively influencing public opinion and decisions made by our elected officials. Working with industry advocates will be invaluable to SDMIAs' efforts. SDMIA looks forward to providing SME an update, discussing their plans for 2023, and how we can help them address these challenges
