AEG-IE impromptu August meeting on the effects of the Trona/Ridgecrest Earthquakes. Miles Wagner and Frank Jordan will be presenting slides showing the effects of the quakes on the San Bernardino County community of Trona. As of yet, we do not have an estimate of the damage to Searles Valley Minerals, but we just got the notice that they have cancelled this year’s Gem-O-Rama due to the damage they have sustained. The satellite data showed that Searles Dry Lake isn’t so dry and shook like tapioca (George Kenline’s contribution). In comparison, China Dry Lake reacted like a monolithic rock to the events. We will also present evidence for 5, possibly more, unmapped faults rupturing the ground surface around Searles Valley, in addition to the M 6.4 NE and M 7.1 NW faults.
