Last month we had our first virtual meeting and it went off very well. Thanks to Mark Trevor of SLR Consulting for setting this up.  Our speaker was Robert Schafer, 2020-2021 SME President.  His presentation "Some thoughts on financing future mineral exploration" was very interesting.  Bob also gave us an update on how SME is dealing with this pandemic situation.  He encouraged everyone to register for the 2021 Annual Meeting, though it will be virtual, there will be a lot to offer, including social hours.

Regarding Section news, we discussed our scholarship money and how to put it to use.  A committee was set up to look into how we can get this moving forward.  Those volunteering to be on the committee include: Chris Johnson, Fiona Doyle, Andy Sass and Bill Warfield.  If you have any suggestions or want to join, let one of us know.

Communication is ever more important.  For SME members we have the Community forum to contact you.  Many of our Section members are retired and are no longer SME members but remain members of the Section.  Andy Sass has set up another email account that we can contact those members with.  If you receive 2 emails from the Section, it is because you are on both lists.  Sorry about that but we don't know of any other way to do it.  The email address is:  Northerncalsme@gmail.com

Our virtual meeting was held on the Microsoft Teams platform.  It worked well and Chris Johnson is setting up a Northern California Section "Teams Channel".  This will allow members to log in quickly and it gives the Section the opportunity to archive presentations for later viewing. Thank you Chris and we will use this for our next meeting.

Next Meeting:  I have requested a Krumb lecturer from SME.  We are hoping to get Stacey Kramer who is the VP Corporate Safety and Occupational Health for Freepor-McMoRan.  Her topic is "Creating a Safety Culture That Leads To Zero Fatalities".   We will try to set up the meeting for February.  Details to follow.

Everyone have a safe and health holiday.  See you next year.
