As everybody knows, there are over 280 billion tonnes of tailings around the world deposited in dams/deposits. In all types of tailings there is a percentage of one or several types of metal oxides ultra fine grains. In the pass, these ultra fines lost were assumed as a "cost of doing mining business". Well, the world went a radical change and losing ultra fines is not longer accepted as doing mining business. Society, Investors and Governments are demanding a more sustainable mining. Sustainability passes by recovering and not losing these ultra fine grains.
What was missing was a technology capable grasping these ultra fines and less problematic, what do do with these ultra fine grains.
Flotation, in real world operations, is very complex and it has a technical limitation to grasp grains smaller than 150 micros. Depending on the metal oxide, this translate into losses ranging from 20% up to 50% of the TOM in form of ultra fine grains.
We invented, developed and patented a new mineral separation process based on liquefaction effects. Liquefaction here is used as geotech (not physics) term. That is the effect that happens in saturated soils during an earthquake.
