For those new to the Section or if you have just forgotten here is a brief history of the Section.

    1. There was the San Francisco Section which incorporated the larger Bay Area, South to Watsonville and north to McLaughlin.
    2. The Sierra Nevada Section was the rest of Northern California, primarily the Mother Lode and Sacramento.
    3. With the mergers in the industry, cost of doing business in California along with operating mines shutting down the membership in both Sections declined to the point where you couldn't justify 2 Sections.
    4. In 2009 we were holding joint meetings, It was decided to formally combine the Section into a single Northern California Section. By the end of 2010, new Section By-Laws were written and approved by the SME Board of Directors formally establishing the Section
    5. A full copy of the by-laws is attached.  The important part is the officers, which is included here.

    ARTICLE V

    OFFICERS

Sec. 1  The officers of this Section shall be a Chairperson, Past Chairperson, Vice Chairman who will be the Program Chairman, and a Secretary – Treasurer.   It is the intent that the Chairperson will alternate between the geographic areas previously known as the Sierra Nevada Section and the San Francisco Section.  The Chairperson can succeed themselves once if no other candidates are available.

Sec. 2  There shall be an Executive Committee which will be composed of the aforementioned officers and two (2) members of the Section as elected by the Members.

Sec 3.  All officers must be Members or Associate Members at the time of their election, in good standing with SME.

Sec 4.  A vacancy in any office occurring between Annual Elections shall be filled by the Executive Committee.

At this time, we need to get new leadership for the Section.  The current officers are not eligible to continue. by the by-laws, but if no one steps up to take the position they can do it again.

I am also attaching a letter that I wrote 10 years ago asking for new leadership to let you know that this is not new.

We will have a Section Zoom meeting later this month.  Look for an announcement coming from Chris Johnson.  He will give the time and an agenda.  Please consider becoming involved in your SME Section.  It doesn't take much time and the rewards are many.
