We are looking for mine workers who might be interested in participating in a study that we are conducting on heat stress. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) does research on health and safety issues relevant to workers. Heat stress is an important issue in many mine sites, and heat exposure can increase the risk of injuries. Because of the association between heat exposure and injury risk, NIOSH would like to evaluate when heat stress starts to affect workers' performance, so that we can determine ways to prevent declines in performance that could put workers at risk for incidents or injuries.
Anyone working in a mine who is under 55 years of age is eligible to participate. Participants must be able to travel to Spokane, WA to our laboratory in order to participate.
Participants will be compensated for their participation at $35/hour for approximately 12 hours over two days. If interested, please contact Kristin Yeoman at kyeoman@cdc.gov or 509-354-8067.
