    ​On Sunday, February 24, the H&S Division will hold an Executive Committee Meeting. This is an OPEN MEETING--i.e., all 2019 SME Annual Conference and Expo attendees are welcome to attend. The meeting will be from 9am to noon in the Hyatt Regency, Granite A-B room.

    We have several leadership openings and welcome nominations and volunteers. See anything that would fit you or someone you know? Please attend our meeting to volunteer or nominate others....

    • Members at Large--there are always three Members at Large are members of the Executive Committee with voting rights. These individuals represent the view of the larger membership, which is now over 500! Make sure these folks represent your view by nominating or volunteering. This is a one-year term.
    • Communications Chair--this position is a member of the Executive Committee and rotates into more senior leadership opportunities in the following order
      • Secretary
      • Program Chair
      • Chair-Elect
      • Division Chair
      • Past Chair
    • Nominations and Planning Chair (internal to Division)--this position is designed to train and develop junior Division members. The person occupying this position is mentored by the Past Chair and has tremendous networking opportunities with leaders in the H&S arena.
    • Technical Committees--to ensure that the technical sessions at the annual meeting meet the needs of our membership, these folks help to identify topic areas and recruit participants.
    • Student Member Affairs Committee--this position ensures that the Division is addressing the needs and interests of student members by working with representatives from all the other Divisions. This position is best filled by a student or professor.
    • Mining Engineering Committee--this position offers input to Mining Engineering regarding content that the Division members want to see and works with representatives from all the other Divisions.
    • Membership Committee--this position focuses on growing SME and Division membership by working with representatives from all the other Divisions.
    • Sustainable Development Committee--this position works with representatives from all the other Divisions to identify and propose activities related to sustainable development in the industry.
    • Research Committee--this position works with representatives from all the other Divisions to identify important research areas the Society should see as priorities.
    • PE Exam Committee--this positions works with representative from all the other Divisions to inform the PE Exam questions and cut-off scores.
    • Accreditation and Curricular Issues Subcommittee (part of Education Council)--this positions works with representative from all the other Divisions to inform accreditation and curricular issues. This position is best held by a professor.
