The H&S Division just revamped its Health & Safety Operational Excellence Award to provide greater flexibility in showing us why your operation deserves recognition. The Award recognizes operations that demonstrate improved health or safety performance as a result of (1) designing, launching, and tracking initiatives over at least the past five years or (2) maintaining programs for more than five years that require a considerable commitment of resources.
For consideration, you will need to submit documentation that demonstrates your improved health or safety performance and describes the nature and level of effort associated with the initiative/program. You want to have your nomination package together for April 2019 when we open nominations.
With the new Award criteria, there is a lot more flexibility in how you demonstrate success. We are open to seeing a lot of different types of data to show your impact. Examples of supporting documentation include
- Days since last lost time or restricted duty injury
- Total reportable incident frequency rate (TRIFR) ≤ 1.0
- Incidence of reportable health outcomes over time
- Self-reported survey data indicating improved confidence in critical competencies
- Safety and health management systems
- Engineering standards and practices
- Risk management practices
- Training and education module/curriculum
- Emergency response practices
- MSHA & OSHA compliance practices
- Behavior optimization practices
- Safety culture practice
