    Section Meeting - February 13, 2020

    SME Utah Section Meeting

    Speaker

    Gene Bosley
    Senior Civil Engineer
    Midas Gold Idaho, Inc.

    Subject

Stibnite Gold Project Update and In-Tunnel Fish Passage Feasibility Design

    Abstract

Concurrent with permitting, Midas Gold Idaho, Inc. (MGII) is finalizing their Feasibility Study to redevelop the Stibnite mine in central Idaho. The Stibnite Gold Project would produce 4 to 5 million ounces of gold, 2 to 3 million ounces of silver, and 100 to 200 million pounds of antimony while restoring a brownfield site affected by over a century of mining. A key component of the proposed site restoration is reestablishment of volitional fish passage for three ESA-listed threatened species (Chinook salmon, steelhead, and bull trout) early in mine life, enabling access to the upper East Fork South Fork Salmon River (EFSFSR) basin for the first time since 1938. Passage would begin with a 0.9-mile long tunnel and fishway around the first of three mine pits, and ultimately and permanently in a restored EFSFSR across the backfilled pit.

Gene Bosley, MGII's Senior Civil Engineer will provide a project overview and status update, and discuss the proposed tunnel and fishway design basis, configuration, and the computational fluid dynamics models developed to support hydraulic design of the facility. Gene and Hayley Rambur, MGII's Community Education Manager will both be on hand to answer questions about the Project and, we hope, enlist your support as we anticipate our Draft EIS and public comment period.
