Hello MN SME Members!
I would like to start sending out volunteer opportunities to our membership for educational outreach. Please see the list of activities below and let me know if you would like information on how to volunteer. Each day we have the opportunity to change the perception of mining, one student at a time. Please consider volunteering your time!
Thank you-Julie
"Ore and More"
Minnesota Discovery Center
April 20, 2019 from 11am-4pm
"This is part of our monthly family education series called "Family Discovery Days". Each month we choose a different science, history, or arts related theme that is relevant to life on the Iron Range. The event is an open format, booth style event, with various hands-on activities for kids and their families. It is open to the general public, with families showing up whenever they wish during the hours of the event and staying as long as they choose to interact with the booths. Booths are typically a table with an activity or other hands-on things that are kid friendly related to the topic. April's program will be focusing on the mining process. I'm looking for a few volunteers who are knowledgeable and like interacting with children. I am particularly interested in having guest presenters who have the background to talk with kids about the different stages of the mining cycle: exploration, ore control and mining operations, processing the ore to produce taconite pellets, what gets made from iron/steel that we use in everyday life, and environmental stewardship of the land during and after mining."
