The Student Chapter Fall Membership Challenge was created to encourage student chapter members to recruit new student members to join SME and the student chapter. The contest ran from August 15 - Oct. 14, 2011. Awards were given to the top three student chapters recruiting the highest numbers of new members. A grand prize was given to the student chapter with the most new members and membership renewals. A total of 260 new students joined SME and 270 students renewed their membership as a result of the membership challenge.
The winners of the 2011 Student Chapter Membership Challenge are:
• First Place — $300 Colorado School of Mines
• Second Place — $200 West Virginia University
• Third Place — $100 University of Utah
• Grand Prize — $400 Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
