Iron Range Engineering student chapter visits Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois

On February 17th and 18th, a combined group of 23 students and instructors from both IRE and Mesabi Range's Millwright program toured various Caterpillar (CAT) plants in central Illinois. It was an amazing experience for all to see the innovative technologies implemented throughout CAT’s advanced facilities. CAT consistently and safely makes high quality products that are used around the world, including right here on the iron range.

The group toured the foundry where most large CAT engine components are cast, the main parts distribution facility from which parts are shipped worldwide, and a track-type tractor (bulldozer) assembly line.

Former diesel mechanic and current IRE student Matt Carlson is all smiles on the showroom equipment.
