Three Pennsylvania mining and geology students were recently
awarded 2016-2017 John Kaminski Memorial Scholarships by the Penn-Anthracite
Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). John Ackerman, left, 2016-2017 Section Chair
and John Mack, right, 2015-2016 Section Chair, presented scholarship awards to Alana
O'Rourke, Peter Dubravski, and Audrey Dunham, at the Section’s Annual Meeting at
the Mountain View Golf Course in Barnesville PA.
Alana, from Lewisburg PA, is a rising senior in
environmental geosciences at Bloomsburg University; Peter, from Albrightsville,
is a Marian High School (Tamaqua) graduate who will be studying geology at
Dickinson College; and Audrey, from Ithaca NY will be a senior in geosciences

The scholarships are named in memory of John Kaminski, former

who was the 1980-1981 Section Chair. The
Kaminski family and the Penn-Anthracite Section “Anthracite Engineers Give Back”
endow annual scholarships for Pennsylvania students in Pennsylvania school studying
