On Sept 17, I met with Keith Laskowski, principal mining specialist in the global infrastructure & natural resources dept of the International Finance Corporation - the commercial arm of the World Bank. IFC, located in Washington, D.C., committed to participate on the keynote panel at SME's annual meeting in Salt Lake City next February. The keynote will focus on the mining industry and NGO's partnering to apply global best management practices to mining in developing countries. During this part of my trip to DC I will also confirm participation on that keynote panel with Conservation International and Africare. Newmont and Freeport McMoRan round out the panel of participants.
Later in the day I met with Eric Lundgren, business development manager with Africare, to confirm his participation at the annual meeting keynote. Africare works with mining companies in developing countries in Africa with community resettlement and local sourcing of food supplies and workforce.
Their flag on their offices that says "Improving lives. Building futures."
