This week I have been attending the 30th International Mining Congress and Exhibit in Acapulco, Mexico. The meeting theme is Mexico, A Country with Great Mining Tradition. According to recent statistics Mexico is ranked 4th as far as mining investment. It is a major producer of silver, gold, copper and various industrial minerals. Attendance is expected to top 11,000 and traffic at our booth has been steady.

SME is experiencing strong membership growth in Latin America and student interest is high. As a matter of fact 8 students from the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua student chapter are helping staff our booth and they are bringing great energy and enthusiasm to the task.  It has been fun working with them and hearing them talk to other students about the benefits of SME membership. Pictured here with me are Juan Miguel Calva Montes, Marco Velasquez, Guillermo Ortiz Valtierra (founder of the Chihuahua chapter) and Edgar Solis.
