SME is offering a seasoned mining expert the chance to apply his or her practical mining experience and knowledge in Washington, D.C., to positively affect change in the laws that govern the U.S. mining and minerals industry. The SME Congressional Fellowship application period runs December 1-31, 2015. The Fellow will spend one year, beginning Sept. 1, 2016, as a special mining-specific resource on the staff of a member of Congress or congressional committee.

The purpose of this Fellowship is to provide an opportunity to make practical contributions to the development of environmental, natural resources and science public policy.

Applicants must be a member of SME and have a Doctorate in geology, mining or metallurgical engineering or mineral processing, or a Master’s degree in mining or metallurgical engineering with at least three years of professional experience.
