SME is pleased to announce the continuation of the Ph.D. Fellowship and Academic Career Development Grant program. The initiative was implemented in 2015 to address the concerns regarding the long-term sustainability of U.S. mining engineering, mineral processing and extractive metallurgy academic degree programs and the declining balance of tenured and tenure-track faculty members.
The 2016 SME grant application period runs December 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016. Grants ranging from $60,000 - $100,000 are awarded annually to qualified candidates.
The two directives of the initiative are:
• Ph.D. Fellowship – provides financial support to Ph.D. candidates with industry experience and a desire to pursue an academic career.
• Career Development Grant – provides tenure track assistant or associate professors with the resources necessary to achieve tenure and promotion.
