Awards presented to mining students worldwide.
The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) is comprised of divisions and affiliations dedicated to specific areas within the mining and minerals industry. These divisions offer multiple scholarships to SME student members who seek a career in the industry. SME is accepting applications for the 2016 scholarship season September 15 through October 15, 2015.
Last year, 157 scholarships totaling $372,500 were awarded by SME, the SME Foundation and the Woman’s Auxiliary to AIME (WAAIME) to student members attending U.S. and international colleges and universities.
“A key mission of SME is to foster interest in, and facilitate the study of, mining and mineral-related courses at institutions of higher learning by providing scholarships to qualified students,” said SME Executive Director David L. Kanagy. “We are proud to be able to provide these educational opportunities to the future leaders of the global mining community.”
The SME divisions and affiliations which offer scholarship programs are: Coal & Energy; Environmental; Industrial Minerals & Aggregates; Mineral & Metallurgical Processing; Mining & Exploration; WAAIME and the SME Foundation.
Several memorial scholarships have been created to honor Society luminaries. SME members and staff take care to ensure the guidelines and criteria for each new scholarship program are of the highest standard. SME has implemented an online application and review process to better facilitate the procedure for both students and reviewers.
