Between January 13 and 15, SME's 2013 president Jessica Kogel, Executive Director Dave Kanagy, and Director of Operations Tim Reagan held various meetings in Peru, including this photo taken at the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), to better determine the opportunities for SME to expand its membership in this mining-centric country. Peru has a mining workforce of over 210,000 and is ranked #1 in Latin America for production of gold, zinc, lead and tin; and is #2 in production of copper, silver and molybdenum. The mining share of the national GDP in Peru is 5.7%.
