SME Receives Grant From AIME

The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) has approved a $1 million grant to its member Societies, which include SME, to mitigate the negative impact on Society operations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. AIME’s four member Societies include SME and three other associations: the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The grant will be divided equally among the four groups.

“SME is grateful to AIME for its generous donation to each of the Member Societies as we all try to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said SME Executive Director and CEO David Kanagy. “The timeliness of this gift is particularly helpful as SME has eliminated much of its face-to-face programming during the pandemic to comply with state and local laws,” he added.
