SME Introduces India Professional Section
The Board of Directors of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) is pleased to announce the formation of the India Professional Section of SME. SME Sections encompass a specific geographical area and provide a touchpoint for members through professional development, networking and community outreach at a local level. The India Section will hold its initial meetings in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and will be chaired by founding member Professor Dheeraj Kumar.
“SME Sections strengthen the Society’s mission to serve professionals in the mining community and support the advancement of the industry,” said SME Executive Director David L. Kanagy. “With the addition of the India Professional Section, SME advances its commitment to provide international expertise for the global mining community.”
With more than 400 members in the new India Professional Section joining the existing five University Student Chapters, SME is providing superior opportunities for professional development and global networking to industry leaders through their membership in the local section or student chapter.
The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is a professional society (nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation) whose more than 15,000 membership represents all professionals serving the minerals industry in more than 100 countries. SME members include engineers, geologists, metallurgists, educators, students and researchers. SME advances the worldwide mining and underground construction community through information exchange and professional development. SME's staff is located in Englewood, Colorado.
