SME Arizona Conference Brings Leading Speakers to Regional Mining Community

Registration Now Open for This Unique Program

Registration is now open for the 2019 SME Arizona Conference, hosted by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, in Tucson, Arizona, December 8-9, 2019. This two-day conference hosts some of the most powerful speakers, engaging technical sessions and influential authors in the mining industry. The conference also provides technical updates from projects in the Southwest United States and Mexico, and region-specific sessions, speakers and activities.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Dirk Van Zyl, Professor of Mining Engineering, Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering, University of British Columbia. Dr. Van Zyl’s talk entitled “Tailings Governance: Are We Up to the Challenges?” will explore the actualitiesof tailings management at the mine site and the governance challenges that are the new reality. The presentation will suggest ways for moving forward in a continuous improvement framework that can make contributions to sustainable development.

Technical sessions chaired by leading innovators and technology specialists include:

To kick things off, the annual Diggers & Duffers Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, December 7th on the world famous links at the JW Marriott Star Pass Resort golf course. The proceeds from this tournament will offset travel expenses and registration for SME Student Chapter members who would like to attend the MineXchange 2020 SME Annual Conference & Expo in Phoenix, AZ.
