As many of you may know, SME has experienced significant growth during the past ten years in terms of membership, member services, and programs. In order to better serve the current membership and the expected future growth of the Society, the SME Board of Directors approved a new staff organizational structure announced back in April that will bring more strategic leadership to the organization.
Tim Reagan has joined SME as Director of Operations. Mr. Reagan will be responsible for the Membership, Meetings and Publications departments. His considerable amount of experience includes that of Senior Vice President of Member Services for the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, where his responsibilities included membership recruitment and retention, marketing and communications, meetings and planning services, and social media for the Association. His previous positions include Executive Director of the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota, and Director of Marketing for Lafarge Corporation.
Michelle Davidson brings 26 years of experience as a Certified Professional in Human Resources to SME in the newly-created position of Human Resources Administrator. Ms. Davidson’s skills include employee recruitment and retention, staff development, mediation, conflict resolution, benefits and compensation, HR policies and procedures, and legal compliance. She has previously been employed with Digital, Compaq, Hewlett Packard and ADP Total Source PEO Services. Her success in developing teambuilding programs will enhance the corporate values of SME.
Rebecca L. Smith has assumed the position of Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) Curriculum Coordinator with the responsibility of creating K-12 curriculum and activities related to the importance of minerals and mining. Ms. Smith brings her knowledge to SME from her position as Senior Earth Science Educator and Visitor Programs Manager at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. During her employment at the New Mexico Rural Science Education Project (NMRSEP), Ms. Smith was teacher trainer and curriculum developer. She also lead an outreach program through the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science to train teachers in rural schools to use natural resources in teaching earth, life and environmental sciences.
The professional experience that these experts bring to SME will be invaluable as we continue to grow and engage our membership and provide increasing value for stakeholders. SME is pleased to bring this exceptional team of talented resources into the Society.
