Impact of Clay on Phosphate Beneficiation

Clays are known to contribute to a wide range of mineral processing challenges. These challenges can haunt a plant from the pit, through the beneficiation plant and even to the tailings pond and process water. Each step that the clay is present potentially experiences significant and costly impacts to the process efficiencies. The effect of clay minerals on the performance of phosphate flotation was investigated. The investigation led to an understanding of the movement of clay through the beneficiation plant, the impact on reagent usage, and the overall flotation performance.

Lucas Moore, Ph.D. | Global Mining Lead - ArrMaz | Mulberry, Florida, United States Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry with an emphasis in Synthesis and Coordination Chemistry from the University of Alabama (2006), Post-doctoral Research fellow at the University of Arkansas with research again focused dominantly on organometallic synthesis and coordination chemistry. Lucas is the Global Mining Lead, which means that he provides worldwide oversite on all mining strategic initiatives for ArrMaz, as well as acts a liaison between business unit heads, customer's leadership, R&D, and marketing. He joined ArrMaz in July of 2014 as the manager of mining's technical service group with primary focus being on the beneficiation of industrial minerals and metal oxides. Prior to the joining ArrMaz, Lucas was employed by Kemira as the R&D manager for metals and minerals processing. At Kemira, his primary research interests included: flotation from silicate type ores, scale inhibition in both oil and mining applications, solid/liquid separation, rheology modification in mine produced tailings, deoiling technologies for oil produced waters, and new technologies for the treatment of contaminated mine produced water. Lucas is the author and co-author of more than 50 publications and is the co-inventor of more than 20 patent applications
