    Lecturer Position in Mining Engineering

Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences

    Michigan Technological University

The Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Tech invites applications for a 9-month (academic year) non-tenure-track lecturer position to support the departmental program in mining engineering. We intend to fill the position to begin in the Fall 2018, but the start date is negotiable. A Ph.D. in mining engineering or a related field is desirable, but applicants with MS will be given full consideration. Professional experience in mining engineering is required. In exceptional cases, applicants with BS degree in mining engineering and proven extensive experience (more than 20 years) as a mining engineer will also be considered for this position. All applicants will be evaluated based on their potential for being effective teachers and student mentors. The successful applicant will teach five mining-engineering courses for the academic year, serve as an advisor to mining engineering majors and capstone engineering projects, and provide some departmental service in support of the undergraduate programs. Applicants must be able to teach the following courses: introduction to mining engineering, mining methods, and materials handling. The ability to teach mine ventilation and safety, drilling and blasting, and other mining related elective courses is highly desirable. We also value candidates with expertise that would allow them to become involved in research and mining field activities.

Michigan Tech has a total student population of about 7000 and is located in the City of Houghton in Michigan's Upper Peninsula; a pristine area on the south shore of Lake Superior. The department is committed to continuing a strong educational program and values basic and applied interdisciplinary research. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering and Applied Geophysics. Interested candidates can learn more about the department programs, courses, and research and find contact information for faculty at mtu.edu/geo.

Applications should include a detailed curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and interests, and names and complete contact information of at least three professional references. Applications should be submitted online at https://www.jobs.mtu.edu/postings/6245. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled.
