    SPEAKER CHANGE!!

Due to a last-minute scheduling conflict, our original speaker, Mr. Frederick Palmer, is unable to come on Thursday, Feb. 15.

But fear not!  We have another intriguing speaker and topic lined up!  Please note that our speaker for February will now be Mr. Heath Lovell, VP of Public Affairs for Alliance Coal Company.  A brief bio is below:

Heath Lovell assumed the duties of  Vice President – Public Affairs in June of this year.  He has been with Alliance since 2006, most recently as Vice President of Operations in the Illinois Basin.  Heath has over 20 years of experience in the mining industry and holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky

Mr. Lovell's talk for the evening will be "15 months after the election, where does coal go from here?

For those keeping an eye on current events, this follows closely on the heels of FERC's decision to reject Energy Secretary Rick Perry's plan to promote reliable and resilient baseload capacity, which would have essentially benefited energy sources such as coal and nuclear, but also included fee increases that FERC felt were unjustified.  (see this month's issue of Mining Engineering, page 11, and again in Steve Kral's editorial on pg 72!)

So come hear what Mr. Lovell has to say and network with your fellow section members!
