    Dear Mining Industry Professionals,

    Please make plans to attend the SME Georgia Section meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM in Milledgeville at Georgia College & State University.  Our guest speaker is Chuck, UAV (Drone) Specialist with Earl Dudley, Inc. from Birmingham, AL.  His topic is “Drones: Are They Survey Grade or Toys?” (Please see the abstract below and the attached meeting notice).  Drones are some of the hottest toys on the market today, but also can be vital tools for surveying, mapping, determining stockpile volumes and estimating ore reserves.

    Dr. Sal Romero, Senior Geotechnical Engineer with Golder Associates will also give an environmental update.  If you have questions that you would like to see addressed please let me know.

    We will wrap up the evening with a prize drawing.

    A meeting of the SME Georgia Section will be held on January 26, 2017 in the University Banquet Room (Presidential Dining Room located next to the MAX) at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia.

    7:00 PM - 7:30 PM    Dinner Served – Georgia Pecan-Encrusted Chicken Breast, Spinach Salad with aged Cheddar and Toasted Pumpkin Seeds, Wild-Rice Pilaf, Chef’s Choice of Seasonal Vegetables, Traditional Roll and Butter, Blueberry Pie, Fresh Brewed Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Herbal and Non-Herbal Numi Teas with Hot Water and Freshly Brewed Iced Tea.

    Drones: Are They Survey Grade or Toys?

     

    Abstract: Drones are some of the hottest toys on the market today, but also can be vital tools for surveying, mapping, determining stockpile volumes and estimating ore reserves.  What separates the toys from the workhorses?  Chuck Snow will show us the capabilities of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) in his presentation.  Here is a link to Earl Dudley, Inc.’s website:

    About the Speaker: Mr. Chuck Snow has been with Earl Dudley for three years, and owned an aerial mapping company for 15 years.  He pilots UAV’s (drones) as well as fixed-wing aircraft.  Chuck has flown over 300 UAV missions and trained over 200 customers on UAV technology.   He also participated in a UAV task force for the state of Alabama.  Mr. Snow attended the University of Alabama.

    Location: The Presidential Dining Room is on the upper floor of the Maxwell Student Union located at corner of N. Clarke Street and W. Hancock Street on the campus of Georgia College & State University.  The entrance is on the Hancock St. side of the building.  See http://www.gcsu.edu/about/campusmap/ for a GC&SU campus map.

    From Atlanta Take 1-20 East to Exit 114 (Madison). Turn right onto Highway 441 South. Follow Highway 441 South to Milledgeville (about 45 miles). Entering Milledgeville, continue straight so that you follow the business section of Hwy. 441 to Montgomery Street. Turn left.  Drive one block and turn right onto Clark Street.  Continue to the 1st stop light which is Hancock Street.  The Maxwell Student Union is on the left.
