Hello all,
The SME Carolinas and Georgia Sections will host their annual meeting and field trip jointly on Heavy Mineral Sands in Jekyll Island, GA on April 27-28, 2018.For more information and registration, please click here or see the attached flyer. Sponsorship and exhibiting opportunities are available for this meeting which is the largest gathering of mining and geology professionals and students in the Southeastern USA. Please forward this email to any friends or colleagues who may be interested.
On another note, the SME K-12 competition "Move Mining Next Gen" asks K-12 kids to submit an up to 3-minute video in which they show and explain why mining is important and so on. The deadline to submit the videos was November 15 and they were then published online to be watched and voted for until December 13. Please watch "Children for Sustainable Mining" (a 3-minute video), who are kids from different countries, talking about "why mining is important". If you like the video, please vote for it. First, please feel how mining similarly affects these kids in their daily life regardless of their differences in race, color, language, and culture. Second, their message is that their support for mining is conditional since they chant for "Sustainable Mining". This is the link: http://www.moveminingnextgen.org/contestants/children-for-sustainable-mining/
Please click on the "watch & vote" button in the menu bar of the link and watch other videos and vote for them if you like them (you can vote for as many videos as you like). Additionally, please encourage the people in your surroundings to watch and vote for these videos to maintain the main idea behind this competition which is to inform the public about importance of mining in our daily life. These kids, who may be the future of the mining community, need our support in the era when mining programs have been struggling to survive.
Thanks,
Regards,
