Dear Mining Industry Professionals,
Please make plans to attend the SME Georgia Section meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 6:00 PM in Milledgeville at Georgia College & State University. Our guest speaker is Paul A. Schroeder, Professor of Geology at the University of Georgia in Athens. His topic is “Future Uses of Kaolins” (Please see the abstract below and the attached meeting notice). Dr. Schroeder states: “Advances in modifying kaolin 1:1 structures are being made the areas of creating mono-layer and nano-tubular complexes. Strategies for creating these structures include: 1) the delamination and intercalation of flat of kaolinite layers and 2) manipulating halloysite nanotube lumen and outer surface properties. Emerging uses of these functionalized clays include applications in industrial processes and medical treatments.”.
Dr. Sal Romero, Senior Geotechnical Engineer with Golder Associates will also give an environmental update. If you have questions that you would like to see addressed please let me know.
