The Environmental Division of SME initiated a student poster session at our annual luncheon this past year as a way to encourage and foster the next generation of environmental geologist, scientists, and engineers and support their academic achievements. The Environmental Division would like to continue to move forward with this program and welcome graduate and undergraduate student participation from all our SME Student Chapters and a diversity of universities at the 2018 SME Annual conference & Expo, February 2018, in Minneapolis, MN.
While we have much to develop internally, the Environmental Division wants to make students aware of this program now, to allow plenty of preparation time. The Environmental Division is requesting that one-page abstracts be submitted by January 31, 2018. At the annual conference, students will be visited by a panel of judges selected from industry and the Environmental Division leadership. Additional information regarding the student poster session will be forwarded in August 2017. The student poster session provides an excellent opportunity for student interaction with professionals to talk about their work and possibly even future career opportunities.
