MPD Plenary Session 2018: Highlighting the year’s award recipients

The Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) will host a plenary session on Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, during the 2018 Annual Conference & Expo. The annual MPD plenary session features the winners of the Antoine M. Gaudin, Robert H. Richards and Milton E. Wadsworth awards. In past years, the winners of these awards have educated and entertained audiences with their talks on multiple aspects of the science and technology of the metallurgical and mineral processing disciplines. These talks are further enhanced by the winners sharing personal stories on the life and times of professionals in our chosen field.

The 2018 MPD plenary session again promises to be an interesting and must-attend event for MPD members. This year’s presentations will be given by:

• Kevin Galvin, the Antoine M. Gaudin Award winner for advances in the science and engineering of innovative systems for coal and mineral beneficiation.
• Hans Von Michaelis, the Robert H. Richards Award winner for his commitment to advance the mining and mineral processing industry by collecting and sharing information about new technologies and application through Randol International.
• Chris Fleming, the Milton E. Wadsworth Award winner for exemplifying Wadsworth’s finest qualities of energy and enthusiasm for his work and desire to share his knowledge.

Sevket Acar will receive the Arthur F. Taggart Award for his paper, “Process development metallurgical studies for gold cyanidation process,” published in Minerals & Metallurgical Processing, 2016, Vol. 33, No. 4, pp. 161-171.

The MPD Outstanding Young Engineer Award will be presented to Christopher Noble to recognize his professional contributions as a young engineer to separation science and technology within the field of mineral processing.

The MPD would like to thank BHP Billiton for sponsoring the Robert H. Richards Award; Resource Development Inc. for sponsoring the Arthur F. Taggart Award and Hazen Research Inc. for sponsoring the Outstanding Young Engineer Award. Our sponsors make these awards possible.

Other MPD events scheduled for the 2018 Annual Conference & Expo include the unit committee meetings on Sunday — open to all MPD members who want to get involved in the 2019 Annual Conference & Expo — the scholarship fundraiser Scotch Nightcap on Tuesday evening and the Student Poster Contest Session preceding the MPD Division Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. Your participation in these events helps the division raise scholarship funds and encourages and supports the future engineers and scientists within our field.

Come join us for any or all of these events. Get involved and make your MPD membership count.
