We need to save this extremely historic piece of rolling stock and eventually bring it to Ironhorse Railroad Park and we are looking for donations to help move it quickly to keep it from being destroyed. Delaware and Hudson Railroad miners transport car number 11 Built by Wason car company in 1893. The car is located in Indiana. This car is believed to be the sole survivor of it’s type. It is also an amazing existing specimen for educational purposes. This is one of the most significant pieces of equipment left from the “anthracite railroads” of northeastern PA. The car gained fame on the D&H’s miners’ train which ran between Carbondale and Scranton, PA. ...

The Pennsylvania Anthracite Section Society for Mining Engineers conducted a course and display for the Boy Scouts of America “Mining in Society” Merit Badge at a Merit Badge College sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council BSA at King’s College, Wilkes Barre, on January 10, 2015. More than 300 Scouts worked on some 30 merit badges during the day. The Mining in Society session was also part of the Mining History Week observance in Northeast PA. The Pennsylvania Anthracite Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding June 19th with a dinner meeting at the Valley Country Club, Sugarloaf. AIME was founded in 1871 by a group of 22 mining engineers (15 from Northeastern Pennsylvania) at a meeting in Wilkes-Barre.
